PersoApp goes mobile: Pre-Release of eID client for Android OS is available

The pre-release of PersoApp is now also available for mobile use: PersoApp mobil. For test purposes, it runs, e.g., on a Sony Xperia L (model number C2105) smartphone under Android OS 4.1.2. For communication with a test card, the NFC interface is supported. The APK of PersoApp mobil is available for download at http://eid.services.ageto.net/persoapp/PersoApp-Android.apk.

Components for using PersoApp

Which components does a software development with German eID infrastructure, e.g. with PersoApp, require? An overview on necessary components is available at http://www.persoapp.de/benotigte-komponenten/

Invited talk at OMNICARD 2014, Berlin, Germany

Identification was the focus of OMNICARD 2014. For twenty years the smart card community has been meeting at its sector conference every January in Berlin. This year’s OMNICARD will be focusing on the major topic of identification, both of people and things. With its motto “The world of smart ID solutions”, the conference will be considering sophisticated system solutions, many of which are no longer confined just to card format. PersoApp has been invited to give a talk at OMNICARD 2014. Slides are available at http://www.persoapp.de/persoapp-auf-der-omnicard-2014/

Invited talk at DAAD Alumni-Events Informatics, Saarbrücken, Germany

On invitation by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the PersoApp coordinator (Dr. Wohlgemuth, TU Darmstadt/CASED) has presented the project PersoApp within the topic “Big Data/Privacy/IT Security”. The online authentication functionality is an option for a trust anchor supporting acceptable enforcement of individual security interests regarding a spontaneous and trustworthy information exchange. Slides are available at http://www.persoapp.de/daad-alumni-veranstaltung-informatik/

Invited Talk at Information Systems for Social Innovation (ISSI) 2013 in Tokyo, Japan

On invitation of National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Tokyo, Japan, the PersoApp coordinator (Dr. Wohlgemuth, TU Darmstadt/CASED) has presented PersoApp in the context of ICT Resilience. Security and privacy are not only general requirements of a society but also indispensable enablers for innovative IT business applications of an infrastructure aiming at increased, sustainable safety and welfare of a society. Increasing dependability on national and international infrastructures for critical services means that incidents of any kind including cyber attacks on these systems can have highly disruptive impacts on a smart society, and the safety and welfare of the population. An example is ICT support for emergency and recovery activities in case of a natural disaster. Slides are available at http://www.persoapp.de/persoapp-auf-der-issi-in-tokyo-japan/

Talk of PersoApp advisory board member National Institute of Informatics, Tokyo, Japan in Darmstadt, Germany

The PersoApp partner National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Tokyo, Japan presents in Darmstadt current trends and research activities in Japan towards a data-centric society and electronic identities among others to support disaster prevention and recovery. The talk “Grand Challenges in Informatics: Big Data driven ICT Innovation in Cyber-Physical Integrated Society” focus on innovative data-centric services, social aspects, and electronic identities. The abstract of this talk is available at http://www.persoapp.de/cyber-physical-integrated-society-vortrag-des-partners-nii-in-darmstadt/

PersoApp Forum at CeBIT 2014

PersoApp has presented some latest developments by the PersoApp Forum at the CeBIT 2014 fair stand of the German IT Planning Council (IT-Planungsrat). After the opening by BMI (Ministerialrat Hildebrandt, Referatsleiter IT4) and introduction of the project PersoApp by the coordinator (Dr. Wohlgemuth, TU Darmstadt/CASED), the talks inform about projects for German national ID card at universities (Prof. Dr. Margraf, Hochschule Darmstadt/CASED), possibilities for using the German national ID card in retail (Dr. Faupel, Bereich Betriebswirtschaft Projekte & Strategie REWE Group), and game machines as an example for offline eID systems (Herr Welzel, Fraunhofer FOKUS). Slides and some impressions are available at http://www.persoapp.de/besuchen-sie-uns-auf-der-cebit-2014/

Questionnaire on authorizations in Android OS

The online questionnaire on authorizations in Android OS (in German) at the computer science group SecUSo of CASED/TU Darmstadt (Prof. Dr. Volkamer) aims to identify criticality of authorizations of Android OS apps as seen by smartphone users. The questionnaire (in German) is available at http://www.persoapp.de/befragung-zu-android-berechtigungen/

Questionnaire on secure interactions in the Internet

At TU Darmstadt (Prof. Dr. Volkamer) an online survey on „Secure Interactions in the Internet“ has taken place (http://www.persoapp.de/onlinestudie-zu-internetsicherheit/). It refers to the threat of identity theft – in this case by a phishing attack – and thereby a possible misuse of data. Since a phishing attack is done by faking the user interface of the expected real service provider should be made aware of this vulnerability and on the other countermeasures should be developed in the user interface design and its prioritization of the study on the one hand. The questionnaire (in German) is available at http://www.persoapp.de/onlinestudie-zu-internetsicherheit/

Cooperation with REWE Group

The PersoApp advisory board member REWE Group and the Chair of Software Business & Information Management (Professor Buxmann) offer a master thesis regarding the new German national ID card. Topic is “Nutzung des elektronischen Personalausweises (nPA) zur Identifikation beim Zahlvorgang im E-Commerce”. Please refer for details on scope, requirements and settings to http://www.persoapp.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Ausschreibung_Masterarbeit_REWEGroup_nPA_21.01.2013.pdf

Resilienz als neues IT-Sicherheitsmodell – Journal article in digma – Zeitschrift für Datenrecht und Informationssicherheit

The journal digma – Zeitschrift für Datenrecht und Informationssicherheit has published by its issue 1/2014 an article of PersoApp partner CASED on security and privacy in a digitalized society based on electronic identities. The author (Dr. Sven Wohlgemuth, CASED/TU Darmstadt) proposes resilience as a new IT security model to improve security and privacy. The article (in German) is available at http://www.persoapp.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/digma_2014_1_Resilienz_als_neues_IT-Sicherheitsmodell.pdf

Resilience as a new Enforcement Model for IT Security based on Usage Control – Publikation at Workshop Data Usage Management (DUMA) 2014 of IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy 2014

In the context of the world’s most prestigious forum for IT security and privacy – IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy 2014 in San Jose, USA – the article Resilience as a new Enforcement Model for IT Security based on Usage Control of PersoApp member CASED/TU Darmstadt (Author: Dr. Sven Wohlgemuth) has been accepted by the workshop Data Usage Management (DUMA) 2014 organized by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA and Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany (http://www.ieee-security.org/TC/SPW2014/). The workshop DUMA is part of the IEEE CS Security and Privacy Workshops (SPW). The article addresses threats by misuse of (personal) data as in case of an identity theft and proposes with resilience a new way for a balanced enforcement of security and privacy based on secure electronic identities. It follows suggestions and recommendations of the PersoApp Advisory Board. IEEE Computer Society Press has published the article.
