Secure and User-Friendly Internet Services
Which secure Internet services do citizens and companies want? +++ Free Open Source Software Library for developing secure and user-friendly Internet services using the online identification of the new ID card.
The new ID card offers plenty of opportunities. To support a successful development of new applications, the project team wants to involve the public as much as possible – from developers to users and from people who are used to the Internet to those that are not so used to Iit. After project completion a manual containing user requirements validated by experiments and a development kit for secure Internet services will be available. The project team will implement a secure demonstrator program of an exemplary service according to the requirements to demonstrate the practice relevance.
Goal of PersoApp
The Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) funds the project PersoApp since April 2013. Based on this project partners from science and industry will build up an Open Source Community over the next three years. The goal is to push forward the software development for using electronic identification based on the new ID card. This goal will be achieved through the following activities:
- User oriented requirement analysis: Our team of both social and computer scientists will ask citizens and companies nationwide in a survey to identify their requirements for Internet services regarding usability and security. Based on the results the project will elaborate appropriate use cases for electronic identification with the new German national ID card. Regarding use cases, companies and public service organizations can develop own IT applications while using this electronic identification.
- Open-Source-Software Development: To ease the start of developing secure and user-friendly online services the project will provide an Open Source Software Library in October 2013 free of charge. It will consist of freely available software modules of the field-proven and secure eID client by AGETO Service GmbH, which has been developed according to the technical guidelines provided by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI). This allows the online identification to be integrated and tested in the own online content. Fraunhofer SIT offers recommended procedures for establishing a security architecture including documentation and the secure integration of Open Source Components.
- Events: Interested persons have the opportunity to inform themselves at various events about the chances and risks of personalized services using the new ID card’s electronic identification
